1. **Understanding Redness and Swelling** - Heads up: after your session, your skin might throw a bit of a fit with some redness and swelling. It's all normal, just your skin doing its healing thing. Usually, this mini drama wraps up in a day or two, but if your skin likes to take its sweet time or is on the fair side, you might be looking at up to three days.
2. **Swelling Subsides Gradually** - After the initial "whoa" phase, expect the swelling to take a breather and start chilling out over the next couple of days. The redness, though, sticks around a bit longer like a stubborn party guest, just to remind you it's still working things out.
3. **Color Changes** - Don't freak if your skin decides to switch up its look by going a bit darker. This is part of the process and can last anywhere from a week to, well, a long 120 days, depending on how your skin feels about the whole thing. If it's still rocking a darker shade, it's just not done showing off yet.
4. **Week Two: Dryness and Itching** - Entering week two, you might notice your skin getting a bit flaky and itchy. It's just craving some moisturizer love. So, let's not leave our skin hanging and give it the pampering it deserves.
5. **Healing Timeline and Session Requirements** - Getting that perfect result is kinda like a marathon, not a sprint. You might need between 2 to 5 sessions to hit your goal, depending on what your skin needs. It's like a custom playlist your skin's putting together, unique just to you, so let's tune in and see how it plays out.
It's time for some real talk. The MOST IMPORTANT thing is, like with any other wound you may have had, KEEP IT CLEAN!! Proper aftercare is imperative for avoiding health complications and for achieving your best results.
Let's be clear, this treatment is a big deal. Your body is sustaining a lot of trauma in a concentrated area. Your skin and body are very vulnerable to infection during this time. It's not to be taken lightly and should be approached responsibly. Look at aftercare this way so you don't get an infection. You've spent a lot of money for this treatment and went through a lot of pain to get it. Don't screw it up by not taking care of your newly treated skin. If you don’t read anything else here, read what’s next and memorize it.
THE HOLY GRAIL OF AFTERCARE:
The first 48 hours are critical. During this time, your skin is especially vulnerable to infection. Clean towels, bedding and clothes are highly recommended during the healing process. Wear loose clothing and avoid things like bra straps and tight waistbands over the treated area. Avoid dirty, sweaty or itchy clothing as they can create healing problems.
You want to make sure you keep showers quick, and try and keep your treated area out of any direct stream of water for the first two weeks. When you’re standing in the shower, your pores are opening because of the heat and steam. This can eff with the healing process.
Too much of anything is never great, right? You want to avoid going overboard with the ointments and washing. Basically, you want to show your tattoo love without smothering it.
1. **Keep It Cool, Hot Stuff!** - Look, your skin's been through the equivalent of a marathon. How about we not crank up the internal sauna for the next week, huh? Trust me, sweating like you're running a marathon is a no-go. Let's keep that healing process on the fast track.
2. **Sauna Ban** - I know saunas are like a hug in a room, but let's give your skin a little time away from the heat for a week. It's not ready to embrace the "sweat it out" vibe just yet.
3. **Soaps On Break** - For the first 24 hours let's pretend we don’t know who soap is. After that, it's all anti-bac or fragrance-free. You don't want to deal with a rash that screams louder than a hungry baby.
4. **Sunscreen BFF** - Hide from the sun like you're avoiding that awkward ex. We're talking 30 days of shade, baby. If you must venture into the sunlight, slap on SPF 35+ like it's your shield. Discoloration is a drama we don't need.
5. **Splash-Free Zone** - Avoid baths, pools, hot tubs, & the ocean for a month, because we' want that bacteria-free healing process. Let's make your skin's recovery a top priority.
6. **Exclusive Club Alert** - The treated area is VIP only. Only the aftercare products you've been given get past the velvet rope. Other lotions and potions are not on the A-list this week.
7. **Easy Does It, Athlete** - Hitting the gym is cool after three days, but let's not be training for the Olympics. Keep it chill to avoid turning your healing skin into an unhappy camper.
8. **Drink Up, Gorgeous** - Water is basically your skin's new bestie. Stay hydrated to keep the healing process slicker than your favorite influencer's IG feed.
9. **No Picking Zone** - Listen, we all love to pick at things, but let those scabs chill. They're like nature's band-aids, doing their thing.
**And now for the bonus round:**
1. **Ditch the Puffs** - Smoking and healing skin are like oil and water – they just don't mix. Kick the habit to the curb for a bit if you want that skin to glow.
2. **Sugar, We're Going Down** - Cut down on the sweet stuff. High sugar is like that friend who's fun in small doses but ultimately slows you down. Keep it low, heal like a boss.
3. **Go Green** - Veggies are your skin's cheerleaders, boosting that healing like nobody's business. Load up and watch your skin thank you in ways you didn't know it could.
4. **Pop Those Pills** - Oral supplements can help benefit the skin and improve the result of treatment. You can try taking: Omega 3, Zinc, Vitamin C, Collagen or Glucosamine.
Alright bestie, let's dive into the post-care lowdown for your fabulous new treatment. You're going to rock this recovery period, but first, let's set some ground rules.
For the first 6 to 12 hours: Hands Off, Darling! Seriously, pretend your treated area is a hot celeb you're admiring from afar. Keep your clothes loose and breezy, & whatever you do, no touching!
After those crucial first 6 hours, you can gently bid farewell to the wrap I cozied your treatment area in. It's been real, but it's time to let your skin breathe. Be sure to wash your hands before removing the wrap.
Now, let's get soapy, but only with the soap I gave you. Warm water, a bit of lather in your hands - and that's it. No washcloths, no towels, no fancy sponges. This isn't a spa day.
Clean the area with the tenderness of a first date - gentle, circular motions only. No scrubbing. Think of it as whispering sweet nothings to your skin. Rinse softly, pat dry with something super clean, and then give it air-dry time - a solid 10-minute zen moment for your skin.
Once it's dry, it's time for the Solution Show. Apply the solution from your kit like it's the most exclusive skincare you've ever had - because it is. Keep that going every 30 to 40 minutes until it's all gone.
1. **Cleanse**: Gently, with the Cleanser I handed over. Pat it dry like it's a fragile treasure.
2. **Serum**: Apply a thin layer of Serum to keep the glow going.
3. **Accelerator**: Finish with the Accelerator, like icing on a cake, but don't overdo it. Your skin needs to breathe, not suffocate under too much product.
4. **Hydrate**: Apply a very thin layer of the moisturizer in your kit to keep that area hydrated.
1. **Cleanse**: Continue to cleanse with the antibacterial & fragrance-free soap I provided you.
2. **Hydrate**: Apply a thin layer of the moisturizer in your kit to keep the glow going.
If you start to feel itchy during the day, apply another little layer of the moisturizer.
And there you have it! Your ultimate guide to post-treatment care, with all the seriousness and fun of your informative BFF. Remember, I'm here for all your questions, or if you just need to brag about how amazing your skin looks (because it will).
Rock on, beautiful!
